Kore (Daughter of Greenness with Earthly Flowers)
46×52cm stoneware
Flowers, leaves, branches and roots are numinous botanical motifs set on various shades of green coloured background. The dominant colour is green, which was inspired by the alchemical benedicta viriditas, signifying the secret immanence of the divine spirit of life in all things. In Alchemy Green signifies generation, preservation, hope and the future. The round vessels allude to the shared roundness of the human head, planet Earth, the Sun and the Moon, and the universe. This shared roundness of the clay vessels, the human head and the universe suggests an unrealised potential of the human mind synthesising the chthonic forces of earthly matter with the spiritual forces of the firmament.
