One of the most ‘real’ aspects of being an artist is the personal journey, engaging with thoughts as they become creation.
For this series the principle theme is ‘constructed landscape’. I have focused on the idea of building a naturally occurring environment but utilising industrial waste. Adopting a single material, acrylic and all its characteristics, I have gained greater control within this journey.
The acrylic reflects the role of the 21st century and the built environment- industrial, artificial and consumable. While the bold unrefined forms express my life experiences, my childhood which was a backdrop of organic gardens and rainforests. Such contrasts in the environments now expose everyday anomalies in greater light, such as genetic modification & over consumption. To express these dramatic differences, I have used stark distinctive colours & unformulated raw edges to appose the manufactured smooth surfaces. The fundamental basis for this series comes from the juxtaposition of artificial material & natural form.
