John Farmer, painter and printmaker, studied at the National Gallery of Victoria School in Melbourne, privately with Max Meldrum and later in Europe and the East. He painted landscapes and still lifes
He lived and worked throughout Europe from 1924 to 35 and travelled to China and Japan in 1921. During World War II he served in a camouflage unit
His portait painted by Meldrum is in the collection of the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
