John MacCormack Farmer 1897-1989. Born 1 June 1897 Brunswick, Victoria, died 29 April 1989 Castlemaine, Victoria

John Farmer, painter and printmaker, studied at the National Gallery of Victoria School in Melbourne, privately with Max Meldrum and later in Europe and the East. He painted landscapes and still lifes

He lived and worked throughout Europe from 1924 to 35 and travelled to China and Japan in 1921. During World War II he served in a camouflage unit

His portait painted by Meldrum is in the collection of the Art Gallery of New South Wales.

His work is represented in National Gallery of Victoria, Art Gallery of South Australia, Art Gallery of New South Wales, National Gallery of Australia, Queensland Art Gallery, Art Gallery of Western Australia, McClelland Gallery, Castlemaine Art Museum, Bendigo Art Gallery, Art Gallery of Ballarat and Geelong Gallery
