Elizabeth Rankin
Lovers & Lunatics
13 May – 3 June 2023
Elizabeth Rankin’s abiding concern as an artist has been investigating uncanny true crime tales that emerge from Australian society. Broadly speaking, Rankin’s work fits within the genre of noir.
The new series Lovers and Lunatics explores ideas of the femme fatale within noir and also considers the follies and ideals of love. This shift in emphasis arose from a reflection on what was to be valued during the lockdown periods of Covid.
Rankin holds a Doctorate from the National Art School, Sydney. She has exhibited both in artist run spaces and in commercial galleries. Her work has been recognised in drawing and painting prizes including The Waverly Art Prize, the Mosman Art Prize, NSW Parliament Plein Air Painting Prize, and the Marie Ellis Drawing Prize, QLD. She has worked as an intern at the National Art School drawing department and her research published by Sequitor in Boston University as well as presenting the work at Queens University Kingston Canada online conference.
