The vase and flower show III
The Vase and Flower Show III opens for the third time this November 29th. Curated by artist Sassy Park, the exhibition invites seven other artists including Toni Warburton, Georgia Harvey, Helen Fuller, Stephen Benwell, Lotte Schwerdtfeger, Patsy Hely and Alana Wilson, to create new ceramic works that raise the profile of the domestic vase of flowers.
The Vase and Flower Show presents functional objects as art objects and art objects as functional objects. The vase of flowers can be seen as a halfway object operating between the inside and outside, the organic and the inorganic, the functional and the decorative, the poetic and concrete. The versatile medium of ceramics carries with it histories and traditions, personal sentiments and familiarity. As well as holding flowers and branches, the vase also holds interest, fantasies and thoughts. The exhibition is a presentation for our senses. The rooms are filled with the perfume of leaves and blossom, creating a scene of pattern and texture, delighting visitors with its smells and colours. The tableau of ceramic objects and organic life is an installation of joy that enriches our lives.
