Born in Sydney, Samantha completed a Master of Fine Art in Sculpture at the National Art School Sydney in 2017 and currently lives and works in the Southern Highlands New South Wales.

She has exhibited at Sculpture by the Sea and been a finalist in the Ravenswood Australian Women’s Art Prize. She was awarded joint first place in the Bowral Sculpture Prize in 2019, and was winner of the WSU Peter Eichhorn Family Sculpture Award in 2021, and has been represented by Robin Gibson Gallery since 2016

Samantha’s practice aims to achieve a lightness and fluidity of touch whilst using a normally, rigid and heavy industrial material. Her practice develops in a poetic and intuitive use of material with a concentration on colour, scale, balance and volume which continues to drive her curiosity in the medium of steel. Samantha composes sensuous curved elements, that capture movement and lead the eye and body of the viewer around the work. As one moves around the work, spaces cast by shadow provoke a sense of mystery. Samantha’s interest in architecture leads her to create spaces within her work that ignite the imagination and allow us to consider our place within it.

She further engages with ideas of connection, relationships and time. ‘Immutable steel bends and twists, becomes malleable and transports us to a serpentine landscape of life, love, and the void. The multiplicity of the moment, a life lived and what is gained and lost along the way appear before us, reminding the viewer of the intangible presence of a world forever escaping them’ (excerpt from solo show, Bittersweet, 2023).
