While I did not set out with a definite theme for this exhibition, landscape and architecture have long been a preoccupation. Buildings, whether they are flimsy galvanised iron structures or something more permanent, interact with each other and punctuate the landscape in ways which were probably never intended by their builders. Their geometry is enhanced by light, especially in the late afternoon when the mystery and romance of evening is in strong counterpoint to the harsh, impartial glare of the midday sun. While the architecture of Cockatoo Island and Katoomba may exude dominance and permanence, there is far less certainty away from cities and towns where the landscape exerts its inexorable power.
